Surviving the Holidays after a Loss
The Holidays can be an extremely difficult and confusing time for individuals and families after a Loss. This program begins by exploring what aspects of their Loss make the Holidays so difficult and what their individual needs are. Throughout the program insights and suggestions for how to make the Holidays a bit less confusing and painful will be given.
Some of the topics included:
- Why the holidays are so darn hard
- Identifying stressors
- Riding the carousel of holiday craziness
- Expectations vs. reality
- You are not the only one struggling
- Alternative choices and behaviors
What you believe and how it helps or hinders your grief
Mon – Sun: 9am, 5pm or TBD
Even if you are a committed atheist or if you are a devout Muslim, Christian or Jew - you have core beliefs (that in which you have faith) that inform your life and how you choose to live it. By understanding your beliefs.
Some of the topics included:
- Faith is not a four letter word
- How do you uncover your beliefs / faith?
- How our beliefs can help and how they hinder our grief
- How they influence our attitudes and practices about grief
- Thinking of feeling loss and grief in new ways
Prayer! It's now for Everyone!
Mon – Sun: 11am
Even if you do not believe in God or a divine force in the world, you can still pray. Prayer is called many different things, known by many different traditions but it can also be individual and new. Attendees will learn how prayer, regardless of their secular or religious views, can be an integral and helpful part of our lives - particularly when we are grieving.
Some of the topics include:
- Can we talk about prayer in an inclusive / diverse culture?
- Prayer without religion?
- Do you have a problem with prayer?
- If prayer is a power in your life
- Understanding why you view prayer the way you do
- The essential need for prayer when we grieve
- Is it selfish to pray by and for yourself?
- The prayer that fits only you
Training for lay pastoral care items
Sunday, May 22, 2016, 1pm
This 9 hour training is for any religious institution that wants to create or educate members to serve on a Lay Pastoral Care Team, an extension of their clergy’s pastoral ministry. It is usually scheduled for a Friday evening and a Saturday, during the day. Other schedules can be arranged. Some of the topics include: Relationship with the Clergy, A Language for Pastoral Care, Ground Rules for Pastoral Care, How to Conduct a Pastoral Visit, etc. As this training was developed as an Interfaith program, it works very well if there are more than one church/temple represented in attendance.
